BHL Washington DC - 2009

BHL2009 - Dec 8-10 2009 (w50), Washington DC, USA

"Where does one go to become BIM/openBIM versed in a short amount of time with little cost, and in a way that is experiential and fun? Try a BuildHospitalLive2009, a web-based, hands-on workshop that enables stakeholders to be part of a live collaborative BIM process. BHL2009 brings together experts, using a variety of interoperable tools using open standards, to demonstrate how knowledge from owners, engineers, architects, facility managers, and the public is connected. As an online learning and collaboration environment, BHL2009 is an industry sandbox in which participants interact on a project. The sandbox provides an opportunity to see how colleagues use BIM/openBIM, and is a place to practice and hone new skills."

BuildHospitalLive2009 (BHL2009) has as its focus High Performance Hospital planning with buildingSMART. The starting point for this learning event was Sept. 22-23-24, 2009 in Oslo, Norway, Europe. It took place on the web and at the Bygg Reis Deg construction industry fair, one of the largest scandinavian fair, in parallel with the The International sustainability and buildingSMART conference “How to achieve cost effective and sustainable buildings? at Thursday September 24t 2009. The next step is taking place in week 50 on Dec. 8-9-10, 2009 in Washington DC, USA at the ecobuild conference.

The purpose of BHL2009 is to;

  • PROVIDE INSIGHT into available software solutions and buildingSMART based interoperability,
  • EDUCATE industry as to opportunities ripe for picking and
  • CERTIFY basic skills acquired through training and participation in BHL2009
THE MOTTO IS:
“learn, participate, collaborate and share, and the whole industry and all of us will win - a human and sustainable built environment”

BuildHospitalLive 2009 - BHL2009 is a 2 day buildingSMART based event based using buildingSMART in planning and design of a new hospital. Individuals or teams can improve their skills by participating themselves or gain insight observing the teams, their products and working procedures

The global hospital market will be very active in the years ahead. Better and faster hospital design is important if we are to achieve the goal of environmental friendly hospitals and "more health for less money". buildingSMART is an open standard based approach for smart and sustainable design, construction and facilities management.

The backdrop for the event is that there are a lot of large hospital development projects in under development the next years.

buildingSMART and open standards enables new ways of collaborating and sharing information which will result in new and more integrated work processes that can radically change or even revolutionize the way we plan and design hospitals today. Only a few of the current hospital projects are utilizing the new technological opportunities available. There is also a competence gap when it comes to executing buildingSMART enabled Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) processes. Some hospital projects have started utilizing part of the new decision processes based on efficient information logistics and the results are promising.

The inspiration for the challenge/learning arena

The need for more and broader competence in the industry triggered the idea of making BHL2009 and the inspiration for the learning arena comes from three sources; the BIMStorm concept,  the BuildLondonLive 2008 and “seeing is believing” in Oslo in 2005.

The BHL2009 is based on inspiration from all these three events. The idea is to make a “doing is believing” session. An the motto of the event is “learn, participate, collaborate and share, and the whole industry and all of us will win - a human and sustainable built environment”

What is in it for me? How can i participate?

buildingSMART and other open standards will impact the way we plan, design and engineer, construct and use our built environment. The sooner YOU get exposed to the new concepts the earlier you can start to learn an important skill and start to think about how it will impact your area of expertise and what the pitfalls and new opportunities are.

We have designed the learning event in such a way that you can participate in and get three kinds of credits; I - sign up for one of the accompanying webinars, II sign up for the web based development task core BHL2009 and III get an evaluation of what you have achieved both process and product wise. This will then be documented in a “training” certificate.

Either you alone, you and your colleagues, your firm and some partner of yours or an existing project team can participate. The level of participation ranges from participating fully, testing some tasks to observing teams working. In other words everybody should have an opportunity to attend at their select level.
