The Horns @ Home

Bruce  Betsy  Molly  Andy and Mary  Cricket  The Yard

  • We live on Buck Avenue in the neighborhood of Mistletoe Heights in Fort Worth, Texas. Our house is near Forest Park, Trinity Park, the Fort Worth Zoo, the Cultural District, the Historic South Side and the Berkeley neighborhood
  • We fell in love with this house in the mid-80s as we were shopping for our first home. When the real estate market took a dive in the late 80s, we bought it and moved in on September 1, 1987.  We haven't done that much renovation to it as we like it just the way it is.
  • The house was built in 1926 and is in the bungalow style on a half lot. It has 3 bedrooms and 1 and 3/4 baths. The whole front of the house is the living room as a prior owner removed the dividing wall between what was once a living room and music room. The chimney is merely decorative as the "fireplace" is non-functional. In the back yard, there is a detached garage with storeroom and we use all of that space for storage.
  • We hope to continue living here forever!
  • Bruce and Betsy met in 1971 when he was working as an aquarist at the Fort Worth Zoo and she was driving the courtesy van for University Volkswagen.  They both changed jobs and ended up working for Zeke's Fish & Chips on Camp Bowie Blvd. and The Hop on Berry Street.  In 1974 they sold all of their possessions except her Gremlin and their two dogs, John and Rita.  They took off in the Gremlin for a summer of zany adventures from the West Coast to the East Coast, the highlight of which was that they were married in upstate New York before coming home to Texas.
  • We live near Forest Park and the Forest Park Zoo.
