AIDS Walk 2008Project: AIDS Walk 2008 About: AIDS Walk 2008 benefits the Whitman Walker Clinic. Established in 1973, Whitman-Walker Clinic is a nonprofit, community-based provider of health care and social services in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Through three sites, in the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia, the clinic offers primary medical and dental care; mental health and addictions counseling and treatment; HIV education, prevention, and testing; legal services; case management; and a food bank. Activities: Volunteers
will be needed to help with registration and other logistics. Volunteers Needed: 25 Capital Area Food BankProject: Capital Area Food Bank Location: 645 Taylor Street, NE Washington, DC 20017 Metro: Brookland-CUA (Red) About: The Capital Area Food Bank is the largest, public nonprofit hunger and nutrition education resource in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. Each year the CAFB distributes 20 million pounds of food, including 6 million pounds of fresh produce, to over 700 partner agencies. Activities: Volunteers will be needed to sort and repackage food for local area shelters. mission of Food & Friends is to foster a community caring for
men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other
life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering specialized
meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition counseling. Activities: Volunteers will deliver meals and groceries to clients living throughout DC, MD, and Northern VA. Two drivers will be needed for this event. Please specify if you will be able to drive when signing up. Circle Food Drop About: Dupont
Circle Food Drop is an organization that packs and distributes weekly
groceries to some of the most desperate residents of the nation's
capital. They serve elderly, handicapped and single-parent families
with young children, who otherwise have few options for survival. Activities: Volunteers will help package and deliver food to local area residents. A driver will be needed for this event. Central Kitchen About: DC Central Kitchen is a non-profit that has used the kitchen as a central location to recover unused food, prepare and deliver meals to partner social service agencies, train and employ homeless men and women for the food service industry, and intellectually engage volunteers. Activities: Volunteers will be working in the kitchen to help prepare and distribute meals. This provides a foundation for building dignified, stable, and healthy lives and futures.

Parks and People Location 2: Riverside Center About: Washington Parks & People is the capital area's network of community park partnerships. Parks & People is working to revitalize Washington by reconnecting two of its greatest but most forgotten assets: its vast network of public lands and waterways - comprising one of the highest percentages of park land of any city in the world - and its core of dedicated community leaders and organizations. Activities: Volunteers will be working in two different parks to help with various revitalization projects.
