About Us

The Bow Sim Mark TAI CHI ARTS ASSOCIATION - Pennsylvania exists to provide information, support and skills to individuals and corporations in the areas of Wellness and Fitness.

The Tai Chi Arts Association - PA is an affiliate organization of the Bow Sim Mark Tai Chi Arts Association Boston - USA. It is comprised of instructors from many areas of Pennsylvania and is continuing to grow. Beginning in 1983 Nathan Spivey began a journey to share Bow Sim Mark's Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) system in the Harrisburg area. Today his efforts has grown into other qualified and certified instructors trained with the support and guidance of Grandmaster Bow Sim Mark. Now Bow Sim Mark's Association has instructors in Pennsylvania available and teaching from Perry County, Dauphin County, York County, to Schuylkill County.  All of this has helped to make Grandmaster Mark's Association a leader in the promotion of taijiquan and qigong in Pennsylvania.

The fitness trend of the 1970’s has expanded to become a part of our American lifestyle. No longer is fitness something relegated to athletes, runners and gym enthusiast. Fitness encompasses many aspects of health that has the support and research of federal, institutional, and private agencies.
Much of what we now know about Wellness includes not only actions that are targeted for staying fit, but strategies for early detection and, more recently, the prevention of disease and illnessTaijiquan and Qigong as modalities of the emerging "integrative medicine" field, are in even more  demand. Integrative medicine is defined as the combining of treatments from conventional and Complimentary and Alternative Medicines (CAM). According to William Benda (2005) "From Integrative to Integral Medicine: A Leap of Faith" and in Consciousness & Healing: Integral Approaches to Mind-Body Medicine,M. Amorok, T and Micozzi, M eds. Elsevier, Inc, p.34: Integrative Medicine:
  1. Employs therapies drawn from all modlities, conventional or alternative, providing patients with individualized treatment plans optimized for their specific clinical situations
  2. Recognizes and relies upon the innate healing capacity of the human body as primary to recovery of health
  3. Emphasizes he importnce of the relationship between practitioner and patients, and
  4. Shares rather than dictates medical decisions; patients are informed of all possible options and given autonomy over their own health care choices.
