I download music all the time. I am downloading music this very second and I have my reasons for it: the main one being that it’s free. If you could choose between getting something you want by paying a certain amount or getting it by paying nothing, I believe everyone would rather get it free.
By downloading music, I mean using any P2P software (such as Bit Torrent or Lime Wire), where you can get anything for free. This obviously excludes sites like the iTunes Store where you can buy music almost directly from record companies.
I have found out about many great bands I probably wouldn’t have even listened to in the first place, if it wasn’t for the Internet. Because of this I have gone to concerts I would’ve otherwise overlooked and bought t-shirts and other merchandise, which means the artist is getting something out of it, unlike many people who think musicians earn no money if you download their material.
But the main reason for me to download music is to enjoy myself. My world revolves around music, and I just can’t get enough: as soon as I sit by my computer I blast away to my MP3s. In Costa Rica it isn’t illegal to download any content from the web as long as it’s for personal use, and despite this being in disagreement with international laws I believe Costa Rica is right for once.
