  • Cobblers in Dutch Ovens for Scoutreach
    5/15/12
Tuesday evening, the boys of Troop 121 met at South Park in Mansfield to help the Johnny Appleseed Trail District in promoting Scouting in the Mansfield Area and to show off some of their great cooking skills.  Scoutreach is a program to reach out to different areas of the city and surrounding area to demonstrate and promote what the core ideals of Scouting are.  Troop 121 help contribute to the day by cooking a blueberry cobbler and an apple cobbler in dutch ovens for those in attendance as well as talk to interested boys and families about Scouting. It was a warm evening that many people enjoyed the food, launching water-bottle rockets, tours of the historic 1812 Blockhouse, and the fun of Scouting.

"This is awesome!" "You gotta check out this view!" "On belay!"
were only some of the phrases being heard inside of the Rockquest Rock Climbing Center in Cincinnati, Ohio over the weekend.  The boys enjoyed free climb walls as well as those where they were on belay for the taller walls.  They camped out at Camp Friedlander in the "Castle" in Cub World side of the camp.  You should check out the photo galley to see what was the experience was like.  They also enjoyed walking through some paths around the camp as they checked out the different geocaches located on the camp property.

The troop provided the fire in an above ground fire pit from which the priests and ministers of the two churches lit their candles to honor the beginning of a new Christian year.

  • Swim Test and Requirements at the Friendly House
    3/27/12
Troop 121 enjoyed a fun time at the Friendly House in Mansfield while accomplishing several requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class.  The requirements of how to save a drowning person in the water is always important for everyone to know and do in a safe manner. The boys also completed their swimmer's test for summer camp that is coming up in June.  After all of the requirement work was finished, a stellar diving and cannonball demonstration was held.  The troop enjoyed themselves and always look forward to coming to the Friendly House.

Many scouts and adults of Troop 121 went through CPR training again last Tuesday at the Jefferson Township Fire Station in Bellville, Ohio.  Aside from the life-saving process, the emergency medical technicians also went over what to do when coming up on a scene of an accident.  Troop 121 would like to thank the EMTs for their instruction and time.

  • Merit Badge Day
    3/3/12
Several scouts attended the Delaware District Merit Badge Day at Olentangy High School.  These days are wonderful opportunities for boys to earn merit badges that they don't always have the ability to get. Thank you to the Delaware District for putting on this Merit Madge Day again this year.

  • Snowshoeing Campout at Camp Manatoc
    2/24-26/12
The troop had a great trip up to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Brecksville, Ohio.  Although milder temperatures earlier in the week eliminated most of the snow on the ground, Mother Nature added some during Saturday morning.  The crew enjoyed a longer than normal hike around the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and cannot wait until they get back to CVNP to hike some more.  You should join us for a backpacking hike some time.

  • Backpacking - Feb. 2012
    2/12/12
A collection of boys and adults braved the cold wind and snow to enjoy a nice hike through the woods and fields of Mr. Brown's farm.  These shakedown hikes are a good way to prepare for Philmont as well as good exercise.  With every hike, each participant learns something new about backpacking and hiking. It is always good to get out and hike.
