Parent Support Group Committees and Job Descriptions
After School Study Tutoring: Assist our teachers in providing guided study and tutoring in the media center during week days until 3:45 p.m. for students who need extra help.
Bookstore: Selling items during lunch periods approximately once a month, 10:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. The chairperson will schedule parents.
Fund Raisers: During school hours, parents are needed to help review the initial order forms and to assist with the collection and counting of money when orders are complete for the school-wide fund raiser. Additionally, PSG will conduct mini-fund raisers such as candy-gram sales and an Open Swim Night.
Garment Sales: Advertise, sell, and distribute spirit wear to increase funds available to PSG. This person will manage the design, sales, and distribution of garment sales.
Interclub Council Representatives: Attend monthly Interclub Council meetings and fill the role of community/parent liaison to communicate with student groups about activities and community service.
Lunch Room Supervisors: Provide extra adult presence and supervise students during lunch times.
Media Center: Assist with processing books, shelving and straightening shelves, and special projects and displays.
NWEA/ISTEP: Read specific sections of the NWEA or ISTEP test to students who receive this accommodation. The dates are as follows: ISTEP: September 15 – 17 and NWEA: August 25 – September 12 and March 16 – April 17.
Office Assistants: Assist with the immediate needs of students and staff on short notice for various clerical duties. Help during the school year answering phones and various clerical duties as needed by the office staff.
Office Staff Lunch Coverage: Cover the office phones and front counter from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to allow a lunch break for office staff. Primary responsibilities answer and transferring telephone calls, directing front office visitors and questions to the appropriate person, and taking messages.
Registration: Assist with the different stations (lockers, schedules, yearbook, lunch cards, bookstore, passports, and pictures) in registering students. Workers will be scheduled for two-hour shifts between the hours of 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. August 10th and August 11th.
Scrip Card Sales:
Advertise and build the base of Scrip card users to increase funds available to PSG. This person will order and distribute Scrip gift cards on behalf of the PSG.
Special Events: Assist with one or more of the events listed below:
· Class Socials 6th, 7th, & 8th /Events: Help decorate, clean up, chaperone and/or provide refreshments for student-driven events by grade level.
· Disability Fair: The Disability Fair will always be one-day in March, as March is Disability Awareness Month. Volunteers are needed all day. Volunteers are needed for three periods or ½ a school day. Prior to the actual fair parents will attend an informational meeting to sign up for a disability and to receive information about it. Parents will deliver accurate information to general education 6th grade students about people with disabilities and demonstrate and help facilitate students while they attempt activities and simulations of various disabilities.
· Reality Store: Help operate a booth at a one-day event usually held late in the school year. Students will move from booth to booth participating in a “game of life”. At each booth, students will find out how much it costs to live. Volunteers will help students make decisions and deduct expenses from a check register. This event is one full or one half day with a training meeting a few days prior to the event.
· Art Show: Assisting with matting artwork and setting up for the Art Show in May.
· Yearbook Distribution: Toward the end of May when the yearbooks arrive, a group of parents is needed on one-day to insert the spring sports pages. This involves peeling off an adhesive strip and sticking the pages in the appropriate spot. In addition, parents will divide yearbooks and deliver to classrooms.
Staff Recognition: Provide “treats” once a month during faculty meetings and staff luncheons twice per year.
Ticket Sellers: Sell tickets during lunch periods for various events throughout the year.
