Week of September 8

Choir - all Brown School Choir members are required to purchase a choir polo shirt. Order forms went home today. This polo will be worn during the upcoming Pops Concert (Thursday October 15th) and during the daytime school concerts in the winter and spring.
Ben needs the order forms and money returned by Tuesday September 15th.

This Friday is Super Spirit Friday!  Everyone should wear their best Brown School spirit!

Our theme baskets for the silent auction this year are “Coffee and Tea Lover” and “Healthy Snacks”.  Please send donations for these baskets as soon as possible.  If you have a basket you want to get rid of, we will take those too.

7th Grade LA    
All students will be completing an On Demand writing piece in class tomorrow - be prepared to write!
 
 
7th Grade Math

The students will begin an in depth investigation regarding integers.  They will learn to "order" the numbers on the number line and uses for negative and positive numbers.

Homework for the week:

Tuesday:  Memorize the perfect squares up to 400

AND all the multiplication tables that have 0, 1, 2 and 3's  up to 12 by Friday

Tuesday:  Brown Bear Paw Puzzle Piece decorated by Thursday

Wednesday: Integer Poster completed by Monday - September 14

(Be sure to follow the rubric)

Friday:  Mad 3 minutes for multiplication tables and perfect squares quiz

 

7th Grade Science:

Tues. :  Camp forms for the 7th grade camping trip will be sent home today!  Please sign everything and have your student bring them back as soon as possible.

We will have labs on Wed. and Thurs.;  homework will be any questions not completed during class.

Fri.:  Review for Energy Test which will be on Sept.  16th.

Notebooks will be returned today.  Check out your student's progress.  If they do not have their notebook, they did not turn it in on time and I am grading it tonight.

 

7th Grade Social Studies

We are covering early humans.  Reading and compiling notes will be done in class. 

Wednesday night students have a homework assignment to read an obituary on Mary Leakey.  There are some questions at the end to answer. 

On Friday I hope to begin the documentary, Guns, Germs and Steel.

 

 
 
 
8th Grade LA

8th Grade Math

The students will continue to explore the relationships between surface area and volume.  They will also discover when identical volumes will produce the least surface area and/or the most surface area.  The students will be given a chance to design a flat pattern if given a specific volume.

Homework for the week:

Tuesday:  Complete the homework packet given last Wednesday.  It should be completed by Friday.  Any questions regarding specific questions will be addressed during the first 5-10 minutes of class and/or after school on Tuesday or Wednesday from 3PM to 3:45 PM in the computer lab 218.

Tuesday:  Spirit Puzzle Piece decorated by Thursday

Wednesday - 3rd PERIOD:  POW #2 due next Wednesday, September 16 

Wednesday - 4th PERIOD:  Design your own M&M problem, solve and explain your steps to a 7th grade student.  Due Wednesday, September 16

Tues.:  Regeneration of the Black-worm; 

homework:  work on any reflections you have not completed.

Notebooks will be collected on Friday!!

Wed.:  Begin classifying organisms by phylum.

Thurs.:  Constructing your pond model;  h.w. - read pgs. 43-45 and write a summary in your n.b.

Fri.:  Classifying seeds collected at Blackacre and learning specific needs of plants.

 

8th Grade Social Studies

We are continuing to look at Native American adaptation to the environment.  In class, students are recording ways that the people of each region developed their culture as adaptation to their environment. 

There will be an open response question as assessment on Friday.  They will have to write about one of the regions other than the one on which they created their poster.
