Brooklyn Alliance of Community Services (BACS)Is a newly established community network initiated by the New York City Coalition Against Hunger. We are an alliance of food pantries, soup kitchens, and community development organizations in the Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, and Crown Heights neighborhoods of Brooklyn. The purpose of our network is to share information and resources, as well as work on joint projects to enhance our services and promote both community development and individual empowerment. We believe that through collaboration and solidarity we can alleviate hunger and promote the economic self-sufficiency of our neighborhoods.

Fully 1.26 million low-income New York City residents - 1/6 - live in households that suffer from hunger or food insecurity (a lack of consistent access to food), according to federal government data calculated by the New York City Coalition Against Hunger. More than 400,000 children - 1/5 - live in these households. These numbers are not surprising given that more than 1.5 million New Yorkers live below the meager federal poverty line (about $20,000 for a family of four).
