The pairs order of play sprung a few surprises but on the face of it looked pretty even.  Stavross Flatley (Whippo and Brace) brought home the first point but this was quickly cancelled out by Mark Jameson and Colm Evans in the second match.  The balance of power then edged in favour of Team Knight as Smithy and Wayne came from behind to knick the win on the last but parity was restored when Andy Cook and John King turned their match on its head to make it 2-2.The singles order was announced after dinner with the respective Captains seemingly deciding to front and back load their order.  As always it produced some mouth watering matches and it seemed like it was always going to be a close one.  Touty set the tone with an unfancied win over Whippo and Colm Evans made it two points from 2 matches with a 3&2 win over Brace.  Johnny King stopped the rot by beating his idol while Rhubarb Dominguez and The Chairman shook for a fair half.  At this point it was 4.5 V 3.5 to the challengers and things started to get tasty. Knighter and Cooky went to the 18th after a cracking match and rightly shook for a half after a good 2 putt from Knight Rider.  Evo closed out Smithy with holes to spare to bring the scores to 5 - 5 and with Ice man Darren Booy over coming Tippy Tappy Taylor, it 6 - 5 to the challengers and it all came down to the last match on the course between old foes Wayne and Keith.  The latter had lead the match throughout but was having no luck with the flatstick.  Both missed the green in two and chipped relatively close and memories of that fateful day at the Vale were rushing through Wayne's mind.  Someone has to miss however and this time it was Skinner's turn to rue a nasty four footer and with the weight of the Cyder Cup on his shoulders, Wayne banished his demons to secure the win and deny the holders a hat-trick.
