Jameson takes Sapey Open on Countback

posted May 20, 2012 11:17 AM by Brockworth Golf

Mark Jameson won the Sapey Open this weekend, edging out Mike Evans on a back 9 countback ruling.  Jameson joins the winners enclosure for the first time this season and appears to the returning to his old self.  Elsewhere Evans did the longest drive and nearest pin double and there were great matchplay wins for Nick Delves and Chris Skinner over Colm Evans and Mark Temple respectively.  Final first round matchplay ties were scheduled to be complete by the end of May but this will be extended to 9th June to allow a few more matches to be played where golfers have missed each others attendance on society days.  Next week, Monmouth.

New Net Score Record for Delves at the Forest of Dean

posted May 13, 2012 7:15 AM by Brockworth Golf

Nick Delves broke the net score record recording 47pts in the process at the Forest of Dean Open.  Delves's net 58 enters the Hall of Fame as the all time lowest net score, beating Mark Jameson'sm previous net 59 around the same course.  Keith Skinner was second with a comendable 40pts and Smithy did well after last weeks handicap cut to come 3rd.  Elsewhere the nearest the pin rolled over again, longest drive was Geoffrey and the turd was Ken Howard.  In the matchplay competition Pricer advanced past Whippo and Jammo beat Jim Burket who ran out of diesel at half way.  Next week, Sapey GC for more low scores.

Smithy Wins at Ombersley

Smithy won the first competition of the regular season with 41pts at Ombersley this weekend.  The old codger beat Joey Lyons into second (39pts) and Addy Lewis in to third (38pts).  Decent course that stood up to the weather well.  Longest drive went to boom boom Skinner, nearest the pin rolls over to the Bells next week and turn boy was Dunny.  Credit to Leon and Tony for taking Knighter and Keith to the last hole in the matchplay and to Alex for quote of the day "Breathe out Gus you fat c**t".

Castle Combe Prize

posted Apr 9, 2012 12:55 AM by Brockworth Golf

Confirmation that the end of season dinner, bed and breakfast prize at the Manor House, Castle Combe will remain as the prize for the Champion of Champions.  After much debate, it's decided that if it's not broke don't fix it.  Order of Merit may get something and ideas for a prize for this event are welcome via the message board.  A night out with Kinger is not an option.

Blubba Wins at Bowood

posted Apr 9, 2012 12:51 AM by Brockworth Golf

Eggy "Blubba Watson" Evans won the Bowood Open this weekend, racking up 38pts to pip Addy "Carpet Right" Lewis by a single point.  Egger has risen to prominance since he signed a three year sponsorship deal with Jackamo, now takes his place at the end of season Champion of Champions finale at the Herefordshire.  Elsewhere it was just another day in then life of John King, who invited himself round to Dunny's house for breakfast (you can't make this stuff up) and James A Bucket beat Roy Major in the first round of the matchplay.  Nearest the Pin was Cookie Monster while longest drive was Colin Evans.  The course was over priced, in poor condition and is frickin miles away so fair to say it's unlikely to make it onto next years schedule.  Next up a different test at Ombersley on 5th May...the season is well under way.

Evans Off to a Flyer at Castle Combe

posted Mar 25, 2012 1:02 PM by Brockworth Golf   [ updated Mar 25, 2012 1:04 PM ]

Mike Evans won the first event of the season on home soil securing 38pts to secure victory on a glorious day at Castle Combe.  Pre tournament favourite Gus was dealt a hammer blow as news arrived that his idol and body double Jockey Wilson had past away overnight while others were looking confident on the range (except Joe).  Egger was flying at the turn until someone mentioned Rustler burgers and his mind started to wonder.  Nearest the Pin was Menzo with a lucky one and Longest Drive and Turd Boy was Ken "Guns" Howard.  Elsewhere the 2012 Matchplay Championship kicked off with some big names being dumped out early doors.  Tournament winner Evans dispatched Joe Lyons and his three sky caddies 4&3, Smithy was ejected by Jameson 2&1 despite scoring 6 more stableford points than him (chin up son) and Howard was shown the door by Gus.  Next up Bowood on Easter Sunday.
