What does this Website Provide?

Tolerance.org was founded by the Southern Poverty Law Center and it advocates multicultural education.   Through “tolerance” of diversity, Tolerance.org examines the successful ways to educate students to promote positive behaviors and healthy relationships.  This website provides information for teachers, parents, teens and kids on ways to fight injustice in the global community.  For teachers specifically, there are classroom activities, kits and handbooks that illustrate effective and applicable classroom strategies to enhance tolerance of diversity.  For parents, there are helpful hints and recommended activities for children of all ages.  Teens can use this website to share experiences and build an online activist group to combat injustice.  Through 'Planet Tolerance', kids can learn about important key players in society from various diverse backgrounds. 

 

How might we use it?

This website serves as an important tool to educate students at all levels.  Teachers can use this website to access real lesson plans to implement into the classroom.   Since the resources on this website are free, teachers can explore the various ways of teaching tolerance at no expense.  There is a bi-annual magazine subscription available to keep teachers updated on current trends and success stories.  In addition, Tolerance.org supports teachers’ efforts to promote diversity through grant funding.  This website proves extremely helpful for educators to teach about multicultural issues.
