  • Maurice Hugh Frederick (1916–2004), British biochemist and molecular biologist, born in New Zealand. From X-ray diffraction analysis of DNA, he and his colleague Rosalind Franklin confirmed the double helix structure proposed by Francis Crick and James Watson in 1953. • Use (esp. a system or procedure) as an example to follow or imitate
  • Fashion or shape (a three-dimensional figure or object) in a malleable material such as clay or wax
  • a hypothetical description of a complex entity or process; "the computer program was based on a model of the circulatory and respiratory systems"

  • control consisting of a mechanical device for controlling the flow of a fluid
  • device in a brass wind instrument for varying the length of the air column to alter the pitch of a tone
  • A membranous fold in a hollow organ or tubular structure, such as a blood vessel or the digestive tract, that maintains the flow of the contents in one direction by closing in response to any pressure from reverse flow
  • a structure in a hollow organ (like the heart) with a flap to insure one-way flow of fluid through it
