Vauxhall Meriva - bad design I can't stand bad design and the Vauxhalls I've driven lately (they are hire cars) seem to have their fare share of bad design. This is the rear door of a new Vauxhall Meriva. The rear doors are hinged towards the back of the vehicle - these style of door openings fell out of favour for safety reasons - they weren't called suicide doors for nothing. Note the position of the child's seat and were a dangling child hand might be. Yes, right in the area where the trim comes together to form a crush zone. The darkly tinted glass on the rear of this vehicle adds to the risk of incidents. ... and don't even get me started on the blind spots on the new Astra.
