Steps to Summer Reading Success

1. Select Your Book and Sign Up

You should have signed up for your book in May from the appropriate list (entering 6th grade, or entering 7th or 8th grade).

If you have forgotten which book you signed up for, the list is available in the Briscoe office over the summer, or you can contact Ms. Woznick (awoznick@beverlyschools.org).

Note: If you are entering 9th grade in the fall, please go to the BHS Summer Reading website for information.

2. Get Your Book

We strongly recommend that students purchase their summer reading book, if at all possible.

All titles (except one) are available in paperback for under $10. You can purchase any of the books at Banbury CrossThe Book Shop of Beverly Farms, any other local bookstore, or online, or look for it at a used bookstore, online or here in the area.

Sometimes students borrow their book from a friend or sibling, or buy a book with a friend to share over the summer.

While buying the summer reading book is strongly encouraged, all titles are also available at the Beverly Public Library; we advise you to plan ahead if you will check out a public library book, as your title may not be available when you go to get it, particularly the most popular books.

3. Read and enjoy your book!

This is the best part. If you enjoyed it and are looking for something else to read, check the If You Liked... page.

4. Prepare a book response.

You may choose one of several different response assignments. Details were passed out in June, and will also available on this website and in the Briscoe office.

5. Discuss your book

In early September, you will be assigned to a one-time book discussion group. You will bring your book response on that day and meet with other students who have read the same book. It will not be the first day of school.

Parent Help Needed!

We will need help from parents in September on the day of the book discussion groups. The date will be announced soon.

Also, if you would like to read a book to recommend (or not!) for the 2011 list, contact Ms. Woznick, the library media specialist, at awoznick@beverlyschools.org.
