Bridgwater & District Archaeological Society

The Society was formed to promote the study of the archaeology and history of Bridgwater and the surrounding area.  The Society organises a range of activities:

Lectures  The cover a wide variety of archeaological and local history topics, reflecting the varied interests of our members.  The meetings take place on Thursday evenings in the winter months, and are mostly held in the Blake Museum, Bridgwater.

Courses   We have occasional evening courses on archaeological techniques.

Summer events  Visits are arranged to archaeological sites, museums, historic buildings
& so on.  Occasional long-weekend trips are organised, and in past years we have visited Cornwall, Brittany, Suffolk & North Wales.

Fieldwork  Participation in field-walking, landscape survey and excavations.

Annual Dinner  This is usually held in July at a restaurant of historical interest.

Affiliations  The Society is affiliated to the Somereset Archaeological & Natural History Society and to the Council for British Arhaeology.  We are closely associated with the Blake Museum, which displays archaeological material excavated by the Society.
