pink dogwood flowers
From this spring. You can see the pink-tinted bracts (which are not petals) surrounding the tiny flowers. Most of the flowers have lost their petals, but a couple of them seem to have retained them. In fact, most or all of the reproductive flower parts are visible, especially at the larger sizes. Taken from one of our trees, which has grown from about a yard/meter to about 5, over many years. I like the soft light on these tiny flowers. Isn't God a great artist?
Large Flowered Trillium
The flower petals of these trilliums may be up to 2 inches long, but are distinguished from the Nodding Trillium by the fact that the flowers are held above the foliage. Spectacular colonies of these trilliums are often seen growing near small streams in rich woods of the mountains and upper piedmont.
