Theme Definitions 2022
February
Water in Motion – An image featuring water (fresh or salt), which gives the impression that it is moving. Water in any form or location is acceptable.
March
People/Portrait (Mood/Emotion/Drama) - A photograph of a person or persons that may range from a head study to fill body length. This section includes candid photographs and formal portraits which show some sort of emotion, drama, or mood. E.g., a couple in a romantic setting; a happy child at Christmas or someone who looks obviously sad or angry etc; or people in a dramatic scene.

High Key – An image which consists of light tones only, with the exception that some small area may be black or near black. The image should be planned as a high key image from the beginning and not produced in post-processing.
May
Scapes - An image featuring an expansive view without any humans dominating the scene. Urban, Rural, Sea, Sky Scapes, and traditional Landscapes are all included in this category.
June
Machinery – An image of an apparatus or part thereof, designed to apply mechanical power or to carry out some mechanical function. It must consist of several parts each with its own function.

Fences in Landscape – An image featuring a fence or fences in a rural or landscape setting.
August
Silhouette - A silhouette is a dark image of a subject against a bright background. In reality silhouette images are often pictures which are more semi-silhouettes where the main subject is not quite solid jet black but very close.
September
Against the Light - An image in which the main source of illumination comes from behind the subject as opposed to the front or sides. Such lighting does not preclude the use of other secondary light sources from the camera-side of the subject.
October
Weathered – an image featuring an object which shows obvious signs of having been exposed to the elements over a period of time.
November
Hands – An image featuring one or more hands preferably in a story telling pose, and lit to show good skin texture or to convey the mood of the story.
