Qualifications

Membership of the Society shall be restricted to those with an active interest in the biomedical sciences or experimental therapeutics, including the laboratory, clinical, and toxicological aspects.Evidence of commitment of biomedical science or experimental therapeutics will normally be reflected either in (a) the possession of a basic diploma or degree in one of the biomedical sciences from an institution of higher learning recognised by the Committee, based on guidelines used by the National University of Singapore ; or (b) the publication of original work in which the candidate has played a major part; or (c) both (a) and (b).Where the publications have more than one author the responsibility of giving evidence for the role played by the candidate rests with proposer.

In the case of candidates whose conditions of employment may restrict such publication, the candidates will be asked to name two sponsors, one of whom should be from a different institution from that of the candidate, and who will be asked to vouch for the candidate’s commitment to the subject or subjects.

Types of Membership

Ordinary Membership.Persons who take an active interest in any area of biomedical research of therapeutics shall be eligible for election to Ordinary Membership.

Associate Membership.Students registered for a degree with an appropriate university recognised by the Society, and other persons with an interest in biomedical research who are not fully employed or who are normally resident overseas shall be eligible for election to Associate membership.Associate members will not be eligible to vote at the Annual General Meetings and hold office.

Corporate Membership.Upon the recommendation of the Committee, the Society may elect to Corporate Membership those organisations or bodies that support the aims of the Society.
