Pictured here are BRETSS members and 2007-09 Council office holders (from left): Dr Low Chian Ming, Dr Cheong, RIta Yong (Hon Treasurer), Lai Poh San (President) and Lee May Ann (Hon Secretary).  Dr Tan Boon Huan gave a historical and virological overview of Human, Swine and Avian flu viruses, through her talk entitled "Devious Influenza". She also presented an update on the H1N1 flu situation globally and in Singapore (which had 4 cases at the time of talk). A live demo of rapid RT-PCR assay for influenza A was performed by Ayi Teck Choon (using centrifuge) on site, on a portable RAPID Cycler. The complete real time RT-PCR assay was performed in under 25 minutes. |
