Grow Food not Lawns

Exploring the interface between the Digital and Bio-Spiritual Realm with photography, graphic art, audio art and word Steve Mann seeks to open your inner eye to the forgotten world around you, Earth, Community and Spirit. Steve has a BS in Technology and volunteers as producer and engineer for EcoRadioKC on KKFI Kansas City Community Radio. He is one of the founding members of Food Not Lawns Kansas City.

In October 2007 Steve started the Squash Blossom Food Buyers Club of Kansas City with the goal to provide healthy locally produced food for its members year round. As a urban farmer and owner of Platte Prairie Farms Steve is involved in the Kansas City Food Circle, KC Food Policy Coalition and is working to update Kansas City’s zoning regulations to reflect the realities of climate change and the health care crises caused by our industrial food system. A lifelong organic gardener with four children and five grandchildren Steve resides in Kansas City Missouri.
For the past 9 years Katie Nixon has been working in the sustainable agriculture field in many countries around the world including the United States, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa. She has recently settled back to her hometown of Kansas City and re-immersed herself into the agricultural network of Missouri. She now works for Lincoln University Cooperative Extension as the Small Farm Specialist (West Central Region) for the Innovative Small Farmer's Outreach Program.  This job has been a great way to tie all of her experiences with community development and food production together. She constantly explores networking opportunities with other organizations, both governmental and non-governmental, in the greater Kansas City area and the surrounding counties for bringing all possible assistance to the farmers and home gardeners living there. She delivers information and education to the under-served small farmers and ranchers on a one-on-one basis in order for them to improve production and farm income. She receives valuable assistance from three other ISFOP Farm Outreach Workers (FOWs) in the region. Together, they hope to improve the quality of lives of all collaborating farm families, as well as revitalize the communities.
