Kathy Barco
grew up in Los Alamos. She left the Land of Enchantment for college and
life as a military wife, mom, and freelance writer in various
locations, including Guam. A craving for green chile and mountains drew
her home to New Mexico. She has been a children’s librarian with
the Albuquerque Public Library system and the youth services
coordinator at the New Mexico State Library.
Valerie Nye is a native of New Mexico. Educational
opportunities and careers pulled her away from her native state for
over ten years, but being far from home made her fully appreciate Santa
Fe’s delightfully unique breakfasts all the more. Nye is
currently the Librarian/Manager at the College
of Santa Fe's Fogelson Library.
Since publishing Breakfast Santa Fe Style, Kathy and Valerie have published a statewide breakfast book, Breakfast New Mexico Style, a book that was the winner in the New Mexico Guide Book category of the New Mexico Book Awards in 2009.
Kathy's book READiscover New Mexico – A Tri-Lingual Adventure in Literacy
(Sunstone Press, 2007), won a 2008 New Mexico Book Award.
Valerie manages a website based on a book she coauthored with R. Neil Scott in 2002 entitled Postmarked Milledgeville.
Kathy and Valerie are currently trustees on the board of the New Mexico Library Foundation and they are working on a new book currently titled True Stories of Censorship Battles in American
Libraries which will be published by the American Library Association in 2011.
