Introduction:

This Project is an exchange program between Brazil and Georgia, specifically Universidade Federal do Ceará and University of Georgia. The purpose of this exchange program is to change students perspectives related to culture, language based on multiculturalism conception of respect and preservation of diferent cultures and their identities. Basically, the idea of our project is  to create a learning environment in which students from Brazil and the United States will be connected to improve respect between cultures, and perceive differences and reseambles in a real-world situation.

Our project is a virtual trip that students from the United States and Brazil took to the following countries: the United States, Peru, Mexico and Brazil. During this trip, students attained not only basic information about those countries, but also information about their socioeconomic status. Afterwards, students were requested to link their thoughts and ideas about those countries to a utopian idea of how our society should be.

In the United States, we worked with Mrs. Gillis and her 6th grade Social Studies students and in Brazil, we worked with  teacher Lucimeire Eduardo (religion class) and her students from nona série (ninth grade). This project was a team effort by Daniele Facundo and Deise Pequeno in Athens, GA, and Manuel Ponce in Fortaleza, Brazil.

This virtual trip project was chosen because contemporary classrooms are becoming more and more diversified than they used to be a few decades ago. Thus, we can find an increasingly necessity for teaching students and teachers about respect, life and learning in a multicultural environment.
