Stage Management
Brandy Lee Hatcher is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Stage Management from the University of California, Irvine. Her academic objectives include developing skills in the latest theatrical technologies, pursuing experience in production and company management, and enhancing core fundamentals in the stage management process from concept to performances. She is working to establish a plan for her thesis on Safety and the Stage Manager, a study of practices in leading theatrical companies to promote a safe and sanitary workplace including a section on the latest safety technology.
Past experience includes working at a classical music festival, summer stock theatre, an opera festival, dance productions and a benefit concert. These and other credits involve casts and crews ranging from 10 to 100 members in spaces as varied as the 1500 seat Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara to the Robert Cohen Theatre black box at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. She has experience working with I.A.T.S.E. crew members.
In her technology arsenal, Brandy Lee Hatcher has expanded her skills working with both iOS and Windows. This includes use of iWork '09 on both MacBook and iPad platforms as well as Microsoft Office Suite. Additionally, she is training on both PC and Mac versions of AutoCAD.
Beyond her work in stage management, she is expanding her skills in other departments as well. Last season, she worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Production Office where she spent time securing performance rights to plays, musicals and music for the Claire Trevor School of the Arts and recruiting undergraduate students for crew positions during the season. Furthermore, she contributed hours to the lighting department working as an electrician as well as house managing for various productions. This season, she is working as a Teaching Assistant for the Publicity office as well as Head of House Management for the drama and dance departments.
Brandy Lee Hatcher has a variety of exciting projects in the upcoming months. Her current production is Mother Courage and Her Children in the new eXperimental Media Performance Lab located in the Contemporary Arts Center at the University of California, Irvine. This project is a collaborative presentation using the Kushner translation which includes use of multiple projectors, analog and digital video with a combination of live and pre-recorded materials, plus custom instrumental compositions performed by the actors. For something completely different, she will then begin working with director Stephanie Coltrin on the Shakespeare by the Sea production of Romeo & Juliet, which will begin touring Southern California in June.
