Modeling how to find the answers to the questions is a priority this month. Both classes continue to work on oral fluency so I selected reading selections from the Scope magazines. In addition, stories from Visions and READ XL complement the lessons. Vocabulary will be extracted from both areas. Classes are online. In Tumblereadables students work with sequence and non-fiction materials. Study Island and Kids College should be done at home for 15-20 minutes each night. These programs are a fun way to practice reading comprehension skills. In class I plan on explaining FOCUS - the program designed by the Department of Education. Word Attack lessons are provided in the REWARDS class weekly. Supplies recommended: Wide ruled paper One portfolio Two pencils (sharpened before class begins) Three pens (one black, one blue, one red) A book or magazine (since this is reading class) Student planner Your character education responsibility grade will be effected if you DO NOT have these each day. Asking a classmate for supplies is not the same as being responsible for your own. Optional supplies: Eraser Highlighter Pencil sharpener Colored pencils/markers Feel free to bring in an extra paper, paper towels, pencils, etc to share with your classmates. Homework There will rarely be any homework I will expect you to finish at home. I prefer to see you do everything in the classroom under my supervision. I have adapted my plans so that you can finish in the time we spend together. That said, if for any reason, you do NOT complete the work in class you will have given yourself homework. HOWEVER - you will be expected to READ for 20 minutes each night. While I prefer to see you reading a novel, I also accept an assignment from Language Arts, Science or Social Studies. |
