- To develop an understanding and appreciation of music, i.e. the classical style, jazz and various genres of ethnic music.
- To develop the ability to work with others as a member of a team. This helps the foundation of good citizenship to be established. Experiences will interrelate with the home, community, school, and social life.
- To develop poise and personality through solo and ensemble experiences. This activity can provide an emotional outlet, social interaction and marketable product.
- To develop coordination, rhythm, and grace. Instrumental music helps to develop physical and mental health, which in turn helps to broaden general capabilities.
- To develop the necessary performance skills which will enhance the school music program and help offer the opportunity to receive a college granted band scholarship.
