There are many reconstructive microsurgeons showing interest in adult brachial plexus injury, but frustration in its complexity including preoperative patient's evaluation, diagnosis, operative planning, and surgery itself.
The 8th Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (APFSSH) will be held in Southern Taiwan (Ida University, Kaoshiung), November 13-15, 2009. Given this opportunity, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital will host a 2-day PreCongress Instructional Course for adult brachial plexus injuries. The first day (Nov. 10, Tuesday) will focus on nerve reconstruction. The second day (Nov. 11, Wednesday) will focus on functioning free muscle transplantation.
Each course will include preoperative patient's evaluation by different operators, EMG interpretation by our neurologist, and C-spine MRI-myelography interpretation by our radiologist, and then Live surgeries in three operative rooms. There will have a translator to make translation between doctor and patient, TV screens set inside the operative room and outside in the meeting room. Surgery will continue from 8:30 in the morning to 14:00 in the afternoon. Lectures will be followed in the afternoon by the faculty. A special panel for "Q" and "A" will be held at the end of second day. All faculty will be there for the panel.
The most distinguished experts in this field are invited, including: Dr. Alain Gilbert (France), Dr. Christophe Oberlin (France), Dr. Yasunori Hattorri (Japan, Doi's team), Dr. Alexander Y Shin (USA, Mayo Clinic), Dr. Yuan-Kun Tu (IDA Hospital, Taiwan) and me. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet and learn from those expert physicians in one complete instructional course. We cordially invite you to visit Chang Gung Memorial Hospital to participate in this unique instructive course.
