We will discuss new ideas to benefit people, such as classes, and also the BPF Virtual Chapter. Part of this will be to have activities for people to do online and/or in real life, such as the BPF radio program that John Simon has worked with in Atlanta before, and making You Tube videos.
We have a projector to show the internet on a big screen to facilitate the discussion. Hopefully there will be a framework for the Online things worked out before then, and we can discuss how local chapter people can help that as well as participate in real life efforts, such a various classes.
People can bring some food and Tom Lacey usually gets some cheese pizza. We usually eat first and then have the brain storming session. Tom Lacey will also give a brief presentation on the Ning site, Twitter, Google Groups and Sites, and how to collaborate online for organizing. Place: Chinese Community Church, 4600 78th Avenue N., Pinellas Park, FL 33781 Contact: Tom Lacey (727) 455-1056 Time: 6:30 pm for eating and 7:15 pm for discussion (if you already ate or can't be so early). Meeting ideas and details below: From Tom Lacey (Chapter Organizer) I am thinking of a community education night where we could have classes once a week. I discussed this with Genn at CYMD and also by email and she thinks it is a good idea and will participate/organize. I like to teach art myself. We have a hall and several class rooms. It should be something people really like to do, to teach something that is relevant to them, doing what Dr. Irving calls a "peaceful act." Tuition could be voluntary, or sliding scale, as people can afford to pay, as proceeds could go to charity. I myself am wanting to raise money for Chinese school, of which I am on the Board of Directors too. Our BPF chapter does not need money, except for what projects it could do. These are things we can discuss at the next meeting. I remember guerrilla theater from the seventies...We have a nice stage for performances and such could raise money for charity as well. We can get more than one group to sponsor and participate in such events...as part of what we do is engaged Buddhism, to reach out to the community. I am thinking of doing one night to have several classes and/or community activities so as to provide some synergy, so people could visit more than one activity. There is already a Chinese class on Thursday night by the Chinese School. There is another room for the art class and the hall would be available for theater. People with musical talent could also contribute to the theater, which could have an engaged theme. I think things with an artistic theme can be very meaningful to people and does not duplicate or compete with practices, but can unite all kinds of people at all levels of awareness/practice. Room for more ideas below -- Have developed a preliminary website for the Community Education Project: |
