BPC Community Ministries

This site is intended to be the (possibly temporary) public website of the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church Community Ministries Committee.

The committee has been working on a new mission statement to share what the committee's work is about and how we will go about that work.  In draft form, as of 17 July 2008, this statement reads:

As we read in Matthew, Jesus explained that the blessed would enter the kingdom of heaven because “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me” [Matthew 25:35]. Many of our brothers and sisters in the New River Valley are in need: they are hungry, thirsty, sick, homeless, mentally ill, oppressed, incarcerated, and suffering from broken lives in ways we fail to understand. As Christians we are called to active ministry and engagement with those in need in our community through our offerings of time, talent, money, other resources. The mission of the Community Ministry Committee is to inform, enable, encourage, and lead our congregation in responding to Christ's calling to individual and church involvement and ministry within the local community.
