(A separate New Window will open.) The West Augusta Historical Society is headquartered in Mannington. The main museum is housed in the former Wilson School built in 1912. Its collections includes gems such as the bed and dresser of Frances Pierpont, Govenor of Virginia in 1863 when West Virginia became an independent State. Open May through September on Sundays from 1:20pm to 4:00 pm, a donation is requested of $2.00 per adult and $.50 per youth between ages 4 to 12 years. Where trains once traveled ubiquotiously throughout WV, people may now hike, bike, exercise in-line skates, cross-country ski, and ride horseback. Each Rail-Trail is different and may be in different stages of construction and development, but they all combine the unique characteristics of Wild and Wonderful West Virginia to make your visit a truly varied and memorable experience of the local culture, history, and most especially, the warmth of the new friends you will make in WV. Statewide, there are over 515 miles or Rail-Trails alone accessible to participants of all ages and ability levels. The Marion County Parks (MC Parc) are no exception.
