Francesca Bovolo is presently a Post Doc with the Remote Sensing Laboratory at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria e Scienza dell'Informazione (Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science), University of Trento, Italy.
She received the "Laurea" (B.S.), the "Laurea Specialistica" (M.S.) degrees in telecommunication engineering (summa cum laude) and the Ph.D. in Communication and Information Technologies from the University of Trento, Italy, in 2001, 2003 and 2006, respectively. She has been a research fellow at the Grupo de Procesado Digital de Senales (GPDS), Departament d'Enginyeria Electronica, Universitat de Valencia, Spain (February 2007 - May 2008). She is mainly interested in the area of remote-sensing image processing; in particular, her interests are related to:
She conducts (conducted) research on these topics within the frameworks of several national and international projects:
Dr. Francesca Bovolo is Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (JSTARS) a publication of the IEEE Geoscience & Remote Sensing Society. She serves as a referee for the IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, the International Journal of Remote Sensing, Pattern Recognition, Pattern Recognition Letters, Remote Sensing of Environment, Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing, Journal of Information Fusion, ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and Sensors. She has served on the Scientific Committees of several international conferences. She ranked first place in the Student Prize Paper Competition of the 2006 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (Denver, August 2006), she is co-supervisor of the Master Thesis “A novel multilevel technique robust to registration noise for change detection in very high resolution remote sensing images” by Silvia Marchesi, which won (first place) the Eugenio Zilioli Prize for the best Italian Master Thesis on Remote Sensing in 2007 and she is co-supervisor of the Master Thesis “A novel method for change detection in very high geometrical resolution images based on multilevel parcels and hierarchical MRF” by Wael Abdel Jaber, which won the IEEE-GRS South Italy Chapter Prize for the best Italian Master Thesis on Remote Sensing in 2009. Since 2005 she strongly collaborates with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, and the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and the
Jadavpur University (JU), Kolkata, within the ITPAR – India-Trento
Program for Advanced Research. She has been invited as a teacher at:
She has been teaching assistant for Comunicazioni Elettriche 2 (Digital communication systems) and Sistemi di Telerilevamento (Remote sensing systems) courses, Bachelor in Telecommunication Engineering and co-supervisor of several theses of bachelor and master students on remote sensing topics.
