Avocado skin cut out - front side ~ 2 of 5 photos
Continued from last photo: Back in the late 1990s, I was heavily involved in carving sculptures using fresh fruit skins, and vegetables and then dehydrating until dry.. I did not have a camera at the time, and I lost most of them over several moves, and a huge flood in my art studio. Initially, I had learned by studing antique apple and pear head dolls from the early 1900s. Initially I used food dehydrators for drying thick carrot and apple carvings. These mechanical dehydrators allowed much quicker drying and thus, no molding. After many sculptures and dolls, I moved on to other crafts, but every time I eat a fruit, its hard for me to toss away the skin peels. I have actually sewen avocado and orange skins....they are a materials unlike any other, and if prepared properly, will last permanently. Anyways, I just impulsively cut out these flat figures recently (with scissors) right after eatting an avocado. Something tells me I will once gain be creating with these amazing discarded materials in the future. See next photo...
