myopia
myopia
Myopia (from Greek: ?????? myopia "near-sightedness"[1]), also called near- or short-sightedness, is a refractive defect of the eye in which collimated light produces image focus in front of the retina when accommodation is relaxed. Those with myopia see nearby objects clearly but distant objects appear blurred. With myopia, the eyeball is too long, or the cornea is too steep, so images are focused in the vitreous inside the eye rather than on the retina at the back of the eye. The opposite defect of myopia is hyperopia or "farsightedness" or "long-sightedness" — this is where the cornea is too flat or the eye is too short. Mainstream ophthalmologists and optometrists most commonly correct myopia through the use of corrective lenses, such as glasses or contact lenses. It may also be corrected by refractive surgery, such as LASIK. The corrective lenses have a negative optical power (i.e. are concave) which compensates for the excessive positive diopters of the myopic eye. In some cases, pinhole glasses are used by patients with low-level myopia. These work by reducing the blur circle formed on the retina. \Wikipedia Miopia: saper vedere cose soffici. \Tamara
Double Vision - Aaron Elias
Double Vision - Aaron Elias
From my Double Vision series... As a child, I was plagued by bad vision. My eyes also would cross, causing me to have double vision. To correct it, my folks tried quite a few different things... regular visits to the eye doctor, years of wearing glasses, a year of wearing a patch over one eye, even a few weeks of contact lenses (which were the absolute worst). When I hit the 4th grade, I tossed every thing into the trash. Within months, my eyes had begun to stregthen. I no longer need any corrective lenses. As I begin to age, I'm sure the road will travel in both directions. As a fond tribute to this visual experience in my life, I have been putting together a series of images that will be simply titled "Double Vision". I find it ironic that I have become a photographer after my visually impaired past. This series is a celebration of that journey...
