Portal To Everywhere (#171-09/07) I visited "Balls Falls" in Vineland, but unfortunately the Falls were dry due to the lack of rain. The Ball Family was famous for their lime kilns that were used to create lime for various uses in the early 1800's. At one location on the way to the Upper Falls, I saw the foundation of an old stone building used to manufacture wollen goods, and its construction and use was dated to the early 1800's as well. This is a shot of part of that stone foundation. It reminds me of a dank prison cell. Those unfortunate to have experienced such a terrible thing as being incarcerated in cold stone prison quarters know only too well that any way out is a "Portal to Everywhere", thus my title for this shot. The lighthouse still shelters the first-order Fresnel lens manufactured by Barbier and Fenestre that was first lit on December 1, 1870. The lens consists of twenty-four bull’s-eye panels held in place by a brass frame, and when revolved at the rate of one revolution every two minutes, it produced a white flash for mariners once every five seconds.
