College of the Consistory
The College of the Consistory is coming to Southwest Florida. It is being started by Jim Hogg, who is a member of the Board of Adepts of the Guthrie, Oklahoma, College of the Consistory. Jim is also an Honorary Past Venerable Master of the Guthrie Lodge of Perfection and an Honorary Past Wise Master of the Guthrie Chapter of Rose Croix. He is a Perpetual member of both the Valley of Guthrie, Oklahoma, and the Valley of Lake Worth, Florida. He has also completed both master Craftsman programs offered through the Supreme Council. The Scottish Rite exists for YOU – the member. It is the institution for higher learning in Freemasonry and it is here for YOU. Part of the new leadership initiative is an educational program. This program is meant to be both enlightening and FUN. It originates from and is a part of the Valley of Guthrie, Oklahoma. The Brothers in Guthrie have promised to aid and assist us in every way possible in getting this program off the ground here in Southwest Florida. What follows below, in italics, is the description of the program in the words of the Guthrie Scottish Rite: The College of the Consistory exists because you asked for it. College Meetings Any Valley can organize a campus of the College of the Consistory, provided it has 5-6 enrolled members to lead its group. Meetings of the College of the Consistory are called Festive Boards. Papers chosen the by Board of Adepts, or the leadership of any Valley campus, will be presented. Fine dining, festive toasts, and fraternal songs will accent the evening's blend of education and fraternalism. All College members and invited guests are welcome. Participation in this program costs you NO MONEY. The book we use, which many of you already possess, is A Bridge to Light by Rex Hutchens.
The festive boards, fine dining, fraternal songs, and the other activities of the local College of the Consistory will eventually be developed with YOU in mind and will take the form of whatever makes everyone feel comfortable. We are going to create this with the idea that we will enjoy one another’s company, learn more about the teachings of the degrees of the Rite, and most of all, HAVE FUN in the process.
I promise all of you I will do my level best to help your valley leadership make this a wonderful experience for everyone participating in this initiative. I expect that I will be learning new things about the Rite myself as a result of taking on this project.
