    Borealis Brass was formed in 1994 to present performances of brass literature and commission new works. The permanent ensemble is trumpet, horn and trombone and additional instruments are added as needed. To date, Borealis Brass has commissioned new works from over forty composers from the Americas, Australia and Eurpoe. They performed for the Jubilee series "Women in Music: The Paradox of Love" created by the Foundazione Adkins-Chiti: Donne in Musica and the Vatican, The UNESCO World Forum on Music created by the UNESCO International  Music Council, the City of Los Angeles and the Foundazione Adkins-Chiti: Donne In Musica, at the 2006 International Women's Brass Conference, in Italy, Japan, Puerto Rico and across the United States. Their performances have been broadcast on RAI SAT, Alaska Public Radio and www.brasscast.com. Members of the group are University of Alaska Fairbanks faculty Dr. Karen Gustafson, trumpet, Jane Aspnes, horn, and Dr. James Bicigo, trombone, who perform as soloists and with ensembles in North America, Europe and Asia. Borealis Brass and its members are Yamaha Performing Artists.
