High Tech TrashHopefully everyone knows we live in a world where electronics are ever increasing in our daily lives, from TVs, DVD recorders, copiers, printers, computers, monitoring systems in medical industries, CRTs on machinery, circuits controlling systems in our cars, cell phones, and on and on. Electronics Waste is growing 2-3 times faster than any other waste stream (i.e. paper, yard waste). Between 2000 and 2007, as many as 500 million personal computers will become obsolete and entered the municipal solid waste stream. Old electronics contain heavy metals that leach into the ground and into the water supply. Many of the materials in old electronics can be recovered and recycled. Recycling Available At The Drop-Off Center
NEWSPAPER – magazines, junk mail, catalogs. Please do not bundle
CORRUGATED CONTAINERS – no cereal or soda boxes. Look for the corrugated wafer inside the liner of the box. Also brown paper sacks are accepted.
STEEL/TIN CANS – all food cans, please rinse to remove all contents and remove the label.
ALUMINUM CANS – all beverage cans, please rinse and flatten the can. Note: the recycling center can not pay for aluminum cans.
PLASTIC - Any number of plastic containers are allowed as long as the neck is smaller than the base i.e. plastic soda bottles, milk jugs, detergent bottles etc. All containers should be rinsed. 5 gal. Buckets, tarps or sheet plastics, margarine tubs, yogurt tubs etc. Are not allowed
OLD TIRES – passenger and light truck tires only. No more than 4 tires at one time. Any more tires will cost $1.00 each to recycle.
USED OIL – motor oil only. Do not mix with antifreeze, water or any other liquids. Ask assistant for help with recycling oil.
USED OIL FILTERS – drain oil from filter for approximately 24 hours. Ask assistant for help with recycling oil filters
