Macaroni Factory

The details here. As you can see, we will be in the company of far more serious musicians. I'm looking forward to hearing vardos live. But I don't expect tthe same in return from them ;-}

I have done some timing of tunes. We are given two 8 minute sets.

Set 1:
Golensteyn's freylekh (2) 1.15                          Alpert Workshop
Goldensteyns Gasn Nigun (twice) 3.15
Ot Atzoi (once) 2.15                                              Klezmer Plus!
Mazeltov (once) 1.20                                           Pete Cooper
Perenita (three times) 2.00                               Enescu
If we learn to move between tunes without stopping, we can do the above in 10 minutes.
Options to cut back: Perenita twice. Drop the repeat on the first part of Ot Azoi.

Set 2:
Kolomyke (three times) 4.00                              Sandanski's Chickens
Volga/Tarras 5.15                                                 Tarras
That works out to 9 minutes. If we were pushed to cut back to 8, I'd say Volga once. But I'd rather push the timing.

Comments:
Goldensteyn's Freylekh. It would really help to listen to the version from the Michael Alpert workshop. Its on the tune page. The emphasis upon the 3+3+2 rythym is apparent in parts. The interpretation of the beginning of the secon line is almost exagerated. These emphaseses really make the tune exciting.
Kolomyke. Listen to the swing in the versions on the web site. We are trying to get this feel on 2nd and 3rd pass.
In fact, I'd encourage both practice and listening to good versions of each of these tunes.
