today i had a very pointless day of uni to attend. it was one of our introductory library sessions on learing about library related things, and i went on time only to find out that times had changed around and i was, in fact, not in time. rather, TWO HOURS EARLY -.- so i decided to skip uni for the day lol. went to the city instead. met up with dear summy and ahmad and we went to priceline for a bit and smelt every single perfume available lol and then went to this little japanese arcade and tried (and miserably failed) to win little pointless fluffy things on their impossibly hard skill testers!!!!!! waste. of. money. anyway, after that, we met up with samih and we all went to myer for a bit, loitered and then went to Secret Recipe in Melbourne Central to eaaat! i had the most delicious meal! grilled chicken with mushroom sauce. omnomnom it was AMAZING! i think it's my new go-to dish from now on!!! hahahh anyway, we definitely overstayed our welcome in that restaurant, and we talked and talked for aaaages! but then after that, at around 7, we said our farewells and parted ways. so so so much better than uni!!! taken at approx 6.50pm on monday the 21st of March 2011 with my nikon d60. Well, having seen all of your pictures I will concede that pictures of fresh vegetables are not the most delicious looking food...However, these vegies are grown by girls who are residents of the Sierra Youth Center, a group home/placement for girls who have been ordered removed from their homes by the Court. All of the girls have committed some sort of crime and for whatever reason they need intervention. Many of girls come from abusive homes, have been neglected, or have seen drug and alcohol use as a way of life. Sierra teaches these ladies to operate differently than what they had previously done. A few years ago, they started a garden program and the girls plant the garden and take care of it all year. When the vegies and flowers are ready, they create baskets and a few lucky recipients get to purchase them. I am one of those lucky ones. Anyway...to me...this basket full of vegies is the most delicious celebration of food as they have been grown by girls who are growing in ways they could never imagine. The program is at risk of closing next year due to budget. However, I am hopeful we can find a way to keep it open as it is the only program in my county available for girls. Supporting their garden program is one way and I know there are others!
