IS IT A FRANCHISE : CA FRANCHISE TAX BOARD REFUND. Is It A Franchise
2009 - 08 - 09 - face of the franchise Washington Nationals fans, supporters of the team with the worst record in baseball, can only look to the future. For us, even "Wait til next year" seems unrealistic, and even "wait until 2011," seems slightly overoptimistic. However, it makes it tough to watch the team right now, because so many of the current players may well not be here in 2011. The contracts of first baseman Adam Dunn's and shortstop Cristian Guzman run out after 2010. Second baseman Alberto Gonzalez's bat is too weak to expect him to be a starter for much longer. Left fielder Josh Willingham and center fielder Nyjer Morgan will be 31-32 and perhaps starting to decline (and Morgan has never proven a consistently valuable MLB player anyway), right fielder Elijah Dukes has has not had a major league quality season in 2009, catcher Jesus Flores, though young, might be pushed out of the lineup by minor league stud Derek Norris, and none of the current crop of pitchers has the kind of stuff to make them anything like a sure bet to be here another two years. So, Ryan Zimmerman is it -- the only player on the current roster we can look to and say with confidence, "Yes, there stands a piece of our rosier years to come." Franchised Landscape
I liked this one better because I thought it had a better message. Pun intended being there's a message in a bottle. And no I didn't set this up, Tara and I found it as we walked along today. The message should be that we're a disposable society these days and those discards are finding their way into every nook and cranny on the earth. This was on a beach in a suburb of Toronto but the same scene is repeated millions of times in other places around the globe. There is probably not a beach left in the world, even those in remote locales where people seldom tread, that doesn't have some sort of garbage washed up on shore. There is "garbage Island" in the middle of the Pacific with thousands of tonnes of garbage caught in a current just going round and round and growing day by day. The effect on wildlife, fish and mammals is terrible, we need to stop.
