Farmers Market this Saturday, Sept. 19, will begin at 9:00 a.m

This week, a booth will be set up with baked goods such as cakes, breads, cookies, etc., with all proceeds going to the Asilo.

Dorothy Digioia stopped by the Asilo yesterday and found the caretakers there in distress once again. The new administration has not yet been given authority to sign checks for needed supplies and food so they have been depending on donations. Right now their food supply is critically low. Dorothy is putting the bake sale together and needs as many baked goods onhand as anyone can bring.

PLEASE help. Anyone who can't bring items to the market can call Dorothy at 6453-3329 or e-mail her at dorothy12337@aol.com for pick-up or Friday delivery. Meanwhile, those in town or coming into town in the next few days can stop by the Asilo and ask what is needed, then go purchase the goods and deliver.

They can always use rice, coffee, sugar, juices, milk, meat and FRESH vegetables and fruit. Dorothy has also gone to Cable Chicho which has agreed to put out some announcements on television about the Asilo's needs.

This is not just a problem for the residents in the home. It's a community crisis, and everyone in the community needs to help any way they can.

Hi Everyone,

Claudio Talley wrote a couple of days ago to say he'd been by the Asilo and they are in need of our help again, The new mayor, Dr. Joe, has created a new Office of Social Assistance, which will be overseeing the Asilo before long, But right now, this very day, and for a few days to come, they could use: Meat (chicken, beef, turkey, pork); FishRice;Bread, Fresh Vegetables and Fresh Fruit; Milk; Sugar; and Pampers (large).

Carla Knox, of Bocas del Toro Hotel, orders Pampers in bulk from David, with delivery offered for free by Servicios Toby. However, their truck came today and the Asilo is in very short supply until the next deivery day. Anyone who happens to be in town today and can assist with this, your donation will be much appreciated. Those wishing to donate money for the next order, please see Carla at her hotel.

Recap of the memorable events that took place over this past year.

December 27, 2008

Today I visited the Asilo and there was lots of food and fresh baked cake and the residents told me how much they appreciated all the Christmas fun they had!  Gloria had fried chicken, rice and a wonderful tuna macaroni salad .. they all ate everything, which is rare.... The residents feel the love and that's what is most important.

Government is supposed to newly allow the administrator in Changuinola to sign checks for payroll and other necessities that in the past had to be approved in Panama City.  This new function to take place as of 15 de enero.  Let's see.  All of us will keep an eye on this, I hope.  Do you know.. interesting fact:  the 3 people who have not been paid are temporary employees?  Only been there for 10 years....

Bottom line is change is definitely taking place at Casa de Asilo because of YOU.  Please say it's true!

This Saturday is the first Saturday of January.  Bake Sale at Lily's Cafe.  8 am.  Please, your donations of baked goods, crafts and gently used clothing, books and DVDs will be so appreciated.

I am at my home after 1:00pm daily for delivery.  If you can bake something sweet, savory or just all around good, do it.  If you have tmie to come spend at the sale itself, I would love the company.

Every little bit helps.  As I tell all of my exercise friends, something is always better than nothing.

Dios bendiga and I hope to hear from you soon,

Vickie Hubbard
