Sliderule Storage and DisplayInevitably your collection starts to grow! And instead of just having a few rules tucked away in a draw somewhere they start to invade other parts of the house. This can test the patience of your wife or partner with this obsession you call just collecting! The answer of course is some form of storage and/or display. What follows is my answer to this problem. The main features of the display and storage are shown in the following picture. The main themes of the collection are displayed on cork boards. From left to right the cork boards hold Hyperbolic rules, Interesting rules and Elektro / Electronic rules. The set of three drawers are the main storage elements for the collection. The two end drawers hold rules in a slanted configuration as shown in the following picture. The rules are supported by two pieces of MBF with slots cut into them . Each drawer can hold ten 25cm rules in this fashion. Thus up to 200 rules are stored in the two end drawers. The centre set of drawers hold rules in a flat configuration and was specially made to hold the more difficult rules to store such as large 50cm rules, circular, watch etc. A special feature of this set of drawers is a top panel made of Glass through which the more exotic rules can be displayed, as demonstrated by the following image. | Sliderule MaintenanceThe care and maintenance of slide rules is relatively simple BUT specific methods must be employed depending on the type of slide rule. Eric Marcotte has meticulously detailed the specific measures for each type of slide rule, these methods are described at Eric's website which can be reached via the following web address. |
