| WHY I WILL PLEDGE by Jason Mitich My name is Jason Mitich and I have been attending Plymouth Church for the last two years. When Andrew asked me to write why I would be pledging money to Plymouth this year, I instantly thought of two people - Moses and David Letterman. Moses and David Letterman have two things in common. One, they both are incredibly good dressers (according to most biblical scholars, Moses invented the bow tie). Two, they are both staunch advocates of top 10 lists. I am not a good dresser so I've decided to write a top 10 list. The following is the top 10 reasons why I will pledge money to Plymouth this year. 1. Plymouth is like a second home for my family. A home filled with love, kindness, and a much, much better dishwasher. Plymouth can cleanse both my soul and a full kitchen set in a matter of minutes. 2. A little money goes a long way. By donating 43 cents a day, roughly the price of one Chicken McNugget, I can make a significant difference at Plymouth. With just 315 McNuggets, Plymouth can fix the boiler. It is simple. One Nugget a day and you don't freeze on Sundays. 3. The choir and music of Plymouth is a true inspiration. My pledge is for the continuance of this beautiful work and for the music video that the Plymouth Choir is attempting to get on VHI. 4. Being a bald man, I often look to God for courage, wisdom, and thick, luscious hair. Plymouth is my Rogaine. 5. Plymouth is a place where truly all are welcome. When I first walked into Plymouth I felt it instantly; a palpable wave of acceptance. I think they even allow Republicans. 6. I am deeply moved and educated by the weekly sermons of Andrew and Bridget. Their fierce intelligence and call for social justice is rivaled only by Oprah herself. 7. Living with an 8 month old baby, I have decided that coffee is a true gift from God. Plymouth's coffee hour is the wind beneath my wings. It completes me. 8. With myriad adult education opportunities, Plymouth allows me to grow as an adult. It also allows me to bring my Star Wars lunchbox to class. 9. Jesus is tax deductible. 10. Plymouth is a family. A family with warmth, support, and no weird Uncles. A family with positive motivation, commitment to our community, and no laundry duties. It is a family with a common bond of God's love in everyone not the Nintendo Wii. It is a family that believes in me. It is a family that believes in you. I believe as well. I believe in Plymouth Church and that is why I will pledge this year. |
