On October 24th, 2009 at 9:30am we will! START - mile marker 271.9 (close to US 421/Deep Gap) at E.B. Jeffress Park: (Tentative 9:30a meet at park) E.B. Jeffress Park is a beautiful area to sit and enjoy the views, take in a short hike to the lively Cascades and have a picnic. The nature trail to the Cascades leads from the parking area and is a half-mile long. The trail is a 1.2 mile loop and is a moderate hiking trail. There are signs on the trail that describe the trees and plants along the way. Falls Creek easily glides along near parts of the trail until it reaches the quick decent down the Cascades. E.B. Jeffress Park is in honor of the man who worked successfully to convince the federal government to position the Blue Ridge Parkway on its current location. E.B. Jeffress Park provides a drinking fountain, picnic tables, restrooms and the Cascades Nature Trail. Then we drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway enjoying fall foliage and stopping to take pictures of scenery and cars and just Rolling! :) FINISH (lunch, etc) - mile marker 312 (close to NC 181/Pineola) Christa's Country Corner General Store: Take a step back in time. We are located in Pineola, NC at mile marker 312 just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Enjoy some good country cooking and great homemade sandwiches from our old fashioned deli. We are famous for our smoked chicken and yummy yeast buns. Owned and operated by Sam and Christa Poore, this old time General Store carries everything from groceries, clothing, livestock feed and a great selection of unique gifts. www.christas.comAt the country store, we could stop and enjoy our meal, look at the general store, and talk about Volvos.
