John Eigler Scholarship: New Mexico Golf Association

 DUE DATE: APRIL 15th (POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN)

TWO $1500 and ELEVEN $1000 Scholarships are available to students in Southern Colorado & Northern New Mexico.   Eligibility includes:

      • Students entering college for the first year must submit proof of acceptance to an accredited College or University
      • Applicant's family must reside in Southern Colorado or Northern New Mexico
      • Applicant's must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
      • Letter of Application due by deadline.  To apply students are asked to submit a letter or a package about themselves to include the following:
          • Their accomplishments in HS, including extra curricular activities, honor group activities, awards, and other relevant information, which, they fell, might help them.
          • Service to the community to reflect involvement with church and community organizations.
          • Their goals and why they should be considered for the scholarship.
          • Official HS transcript, ACT or SAT results, two letters of recommendation from responsible community members (teachers, pastors, etc...), & a mailing address and phone number where applicant can be reached.  
          • Applicants do not need an interest in golf to qualify

Peaks to Plains Scholarship


Due Date: Postmarked by April 20th, 2009

The Peak Leader Scholarship is designed to attract students with agriculture business, or leadership backgrounds to the organization.  Two Scholarships in the amount of $250 are awarded to graduating seniors in  Montezuma County.

Four Corners Bar Association Scholarship

Due Date: April 10th, 2009 (Post-marked)

Up to $1,000 (renewable over four years)

This scholarship is awarded by the Four Corners Bar Association, which is the chapter of the Colorado Bar Association for attorneys and judges in the 22nd Judicial District (Montezuma and Dolores Counties).

Graduating seniors who will be attending an accredited College or University are eligible.  All graduating seniors attending Montezuma Cortez High School, Dolores High School, Dolores County High School, Mancos High School, and Southwest Open High School, are eligible to apply for the scholarship.  Immediate family members of members of the Four Corners Bar Association are ineligible. 

A scholarship of $250.00 will be awarded in 2009.  The 2009 scholarship may be renewed for 3 additional years for $250.00 per year (for a total award of $1,000.00).

Cortez Cultural Arts Scholarship

Due Date: On or before April 24, 2009

Cortez Cultural Center Arts Scholarship

$1000 Award:  Applicants must show evidence of their acceptance to and enrollment in a state certified school of the arts or in the arts program of a college or university.

Emblem Club Scholarship

Due Date: April 20, 2009

This annual award of $750 will be awarded to one or two recipients from Mancos High School or other schools in the county. 

Recipients of the award may re-apply each year for up to three years if he/she maintains a GPA of at least a 2.75.  This could lead to a total award of $3,000.

Southwestern Colorado Livestock Association

Due Date: March 1, 2009

The number and amount of awards will depend on the number of applicants.  This award is granted to graduating seniors in the area who are planning to attend college.  Please see the attachment at the bottom of this page for complete application.  Thank you!


Hiebler Memorial Scholarship

DUE DATE: APRIL 15th
Total award amount for 4 years is $16,000!

A scholarship will be awarded to one MHS student in the amount of $4000 renewable award for 4 years (total award amount of $16,000) made available through the Union Bank of California.  

Applicants should be planning on attending a college in the state of Colorado.

Turn in application to the Mancos Counseling office by April 15th, 2009 at 3:30pm.

MHS Student Council Leadership Scholarship

Due Date: April 15th
Turned in to HS Counseling Office

$500 Scholarship Award

Eligible recipients 
  • must be a graduating senior from Mancos High School
  • Recipient must plan full-time enrollment in an accredited two or four-year college, university or career-technical school.
  • Recipient must have maintained 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Recipient must have served in a student council leadership role for a minimum of 1 year
  • Recipient must have community involvement

Empire Electric Association Scholarship

DUE DATE: FEBRUARY 15th of each year

FIVE $1000 Scholarships for graduating Mancos High School Students!!!  

These $1,000 scholarships are for 2-4 year accredited colleges OR $500 vocational scholarships.  Consideration will be given to your scholastic standing, character, desire to obtain a college education and economic needs.

Summit Ridge Women's Club Scholarship

Due Date:  March 27, 2009


This is a $500 scholarship that will be awarded to a MHS graduating senior.   To apply you must:
    1) Provide a transcript of your grades including grade point average
    2) Provide notification of acceptance at an institution of higher ed
    3) Submit two letters of recommendation - one from a teacher and one 
        from an acquaintance not related to you.
    4) Write a letter to the club providing information about yourself, your
        need for the scholarship money, your planned course of study, the
        school you plan to attend, and when you will start.

Give the full application package to your MHS School Counselor by Friday, March 27, 2009.

Cortez Elks Lodge Scholarships

 Due April 24, 2009 4:00pm

FOUR $1,000 scholarships to local area students.

  • Most Valuable Male Student
  • Most Valuable Female Student
  • Technical/Vocational Directed Program Recipient
  • Legacy Scholarship for students directly related to an active Elk Member.

Students who apply in January 09 for the Elks National Foundation Scholarship are automatically included in competition for the $1,000 scholarships.

Awards notified via telephone on Saturday April 25th.  Award Ceremony on Wed May 6th at 6:45pm at the Elks Lodge in Cortez.    

 Please pick up one of the four applications in the Counselors office. Applications are printed in the following colors:   MVP Male = Blue, MVP Female =Pink, Legacy = Yellow, Vocational/Technical = White.  Please ask Mrs. D'Acquisto for the application of your choice.  

 Turn in applications to the address listed on the colored application form no later than April 24th @ 4:00pm


Mancos Valley Lions Club/Jim & Ellen Holston Scholarship

Due Date: April 20, 2009 

THE JIM & ELLEN HOLSTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Mancos Valley Lions Club will give a $500 scholarship to a Mancos High School graduate.  This award will be given annually provided funds are available. The selection committee shall consist of at least three members of the Lions Club.

The criteria to be used by the selection committee in determining the recipient will be as follows:

 

A.     The recipient shall be a graduating senior from Mancos High School, Mancos Colorado.

B.     The recipient shall be accepted at a college, university or vocational school and plans to attend.

C.    The recipient shall be a good student academically and a participant in athletic and or other school activities, e.g. school government, annual committee.

D.    The recipient will be chosen without consideration to race, sex, creed or financial need.

Application instructions:

1.      Type or print clearly scholarship application.

2.      Include the following items:

a)     Copy of high school transcript

b)     Educational plans and course of study

c)      Letter of recommendation from counselor and two other individuals.

d)     Two or three paragraphs describing your high school activities other than academics; e.g. honors, awards, offices and positions of leadership.

e)     A paragraph describing any community service activity you have been involved in while in high school.

f)       Mail application and any included items to the below address by April 20th, 2009.

Montezuma County Sheriff's Office Scholarship

Due Date: May 15, 2009

New 2009 application added 2/20/2009

Scholarship program is available to any student planning to attend a Junior College or a 4 year University or a first or second year student currently enrolled in Post High School Education.

Mancos Valley Bank Scholarship

DUE DATE: MAY 1, 2009

A scholarship up to $1,000 designed primarily to assist any Mancos High School graduate in his or her pursuit of a continuing education whether it be at a College, University, or Vocational School. 

Any Mancos High School Senior may apply without consideration to race, color, creed, or financial need.

Colorado Water Officials Association Scholarship

DUE DATE: Postmarked by March 10th, 2009

$500 Scholarship awarded to a student in Montezuma County.   Preferences given to students with interest in water resources, environmental science, civil engineering or agricultural studies.  Minimum GPA of 2.8

Blue Zenith Scholarship

Due Date: On or before April 15th to the MHS Counseling office.

The Blue Zenith Scholarship program provides one or more scholarships to graduating seniors from Mancos High School.  The scholarship is granted for up to four years, and provides payment of tuition, books, and fees to an accredited college or university in the United States. 

Turn in your application on or before April 15th to the MHS High School Counseling Office.  No late applications will be accepted.

Western Excelsior Corporation Scholarship

Due Date: April 17, 2009 

UPDATE!  FIVE $1000 Scholarships awarded this year to graduating seniors!!
The Western Excelsior Scholarship Fund     provides a graduating senior from Mancos High School a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00, providing payment (to be used for tuition, books and/or fees) to an accredited College or University in the United States.  Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the grantee’s school. 

All applications will be considered on the basis of a grade point average of 3.0 and  above.  Western Excelsior Corporation and /or its designated committee does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex or religion.   Every candidate is evaluated on the data submitted pertaining to the Application checklist and Additional Instructions checklist information listed below.

Imagine America Career/Technical college program Scholarship

Applications accepted on an ongoing basis; priority given to the first 3 applicants accepted to a career/technical/vocational school enrolled in the Imagine America Scholarship Fund.  

Three graduating high school seniors from Mancos High School who will be attending a non-traditional school (such as technical schools) are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship.  The criteria for the award is a minimum GPA of 2.5, financial need and a likelihood of successful completion of post secondary education.  To apply click here:

Stewart/Watson/Wheeler Scholarship

Due Date: Turn into MHS Counseling office by April 1, 2009

One MHS Student will be awarded this $1000 (non-renewable) award!   Scholarship award is based more on need than on best scholastics.  Student should have a strong desire to help himself/herself by getting an education, to improve knowledge, learn a trade or profession, and provide for self and/or family. 

Priority given to students who plan to attend a public Colorado college, university or  vocational school and who would set a goal of obtaining at least a B+ average in college.

 History of the Scholarship:

  The donor’s grandparents, the Stewarts, came to Mancos in 1923. His grandmother Watson moved to Mancos in 1908. The donor received a scholarship to continue his education, and wants to do the same for another student.

Cortez Area Association of Realtors Scholarship

Due: On or before April 15, 2009

TWO SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDS OFFERED!

Any student seeking higher education that has attended high school in Montezuma or Dolores Counties of Colorado may file.  Scholarship, leadership, and financial need are the criteria for awards.

Nellie Patterson Scholarship

Due Date: April 15, 2009

One or more scholarships are granted to graduating seniors from Mancos High School.  Candidates must be a US citizen and bona fide residents of the Mancos School area.   The residents must have attended Mancos HS for at least two years.  Grade point average at least a 3.0.     In making the selection, the committee does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex or economic background.  The committee evaluates the worth and potential of every candidate.    Please submit the following criteria DATE: April 15, 2009,  to the Counselors office by 3:30pm.

    • Letter of Application - includes:  Statement of interest, Educational plans and course of study, work plans, why the scholarship is needed, other known assistance received, community service and a brief description of a personal experience that has impacted you
    • Transcript
    • Acceptance letter from an Institution of Higher Learning. 

Dean E. Wolcott Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Due Date: April 15, 2009

This annual award will be given out to a Mancos HS graduate and is for the amount of $1,000.  The selection committee may choose to divide this award among one or more individuals.  Winners may re-apply for this scholarship.  Turn in your complete application to the counseling office at MHS by deadline.

Criteria used by the selection committee in determining the recipients will be as follows:

    • Graduating senior or a recent graduate from Mancos High School
    • The recipient shall be accepted to college, university, or vocational school and plan to attend
    • The recipient shall need financial help in order to further his or her education
    • The recipient shall be a good student academically and well rounded in athletic and/or other school activities.
    • The recipient shall be selected without regard to race, sex, or religion

Instructions: 

  • A cover letter that includes two or more paragraphs on your goals and why you've chose them, and a     paragraph on your personal reasons for needing this scholarship.  Be sure to give details.
    • Submit a copy of your HS transcript
    • Submit copy of your letter of acceptance from the school you plan to attend
    • Three recommendations; one from an individual not connected with the Mancos Public Schools

Southwest Memorial Hospital Scholarship

Due Date: March 30th

Health care Scholarship! 

Two individuals in the county will be awarded a $600 scholarship.   Provided pending availability for funds, recipients may be supported for up to four years.   Applicant must have chosen health care as a career.

    Methodist Thrift Shop Scholarship

    Due Date: March 15, 2009

    Scholarships are based on church involvement, leadership, community service, extra-curricular activities and personal attributes.   Students must submit an essay, letter from the student's clergy, and application.  For questions contact Mary Knowles at 970-884-0148.

    Colorado Mason's Masonic Lodge Scholarship

    Due Date: Schedule interviews in February for March 15th Deadline.   

    One local-level scholarship award at $500-$1,000 for 4 years.    Interviews must be arranged ahead of time  as a part of the application process with a representative from the committee.  The locally funded Masonic scholarship can be used for higher education or vocational training outside of Colorado.   Applicants for the local scholarship are asked to contact the lodge scholarship committee to set up an interview sometime in February so that the March 15th deadline can be met.

    Bill and Peg Rees Scholarship

    Due Date: April 10, 2009

    Provides renewable scholarships of approximately a thousand dollars a semester for four years ($2,000/year).  Successful applicants must be graduates of high schools in Dolores or Montezuma counties.  Other requirements are: clearly communicated educational goals and objectives, significant financial need, strong academic performance, participation in various school activities, diverse community involvement, self awareness.

    Kiwanis Club - Bob Cox Memorial Scholarship

    Due Date: April 8, 2009

    Candidates will be selected for this $1000 non-renewable award based on financial need, community service, academic scholar, reference letters and the candidate's post-secondary intentions.

    Knights Memorial Scholarship

    For students who are a member of the Montelores Catholic Community (MCC), pending graduation from high school program in the area, have a plan to attend an accredited post secondary institution and has applied for, or been accepted to or is currently enrolled in such an institution.

    AXA Achievement Community Scholarship

    Winners must demonstrate ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community and have an ability to succeed in college.  Up to 12 $2,000 college scholarships may be awarded to students in the Mancos, Cortez and Dolores communities.

    Rodger Bell Memorial Scholarship

    Due Date: May 1, 2009

    This scholarship will be awarded to a Mancos High School graduate in the amount of $1,000 and will be sent directly to the college/university or vocational school to which the recipient has been accepted.  These funds are for payment of tuition, books and fees.

    Completed applications should be mailed to PO Box CC, Cortez, CO 81321 and must be received on or before May 1, 2009.  We are interested in helping an applicant achieve their goal; however, only completed applications will be considered.

    Best Buy Local Student Scholarships

    Due Date: February 15, 2009

    Awarded to students within 75 miles of a Best Buy Store.   For students with good grades and outstanding community service.

    During the last year, the Fort Lewis College Foundation assisted more than 200 students through scholarships and awards totaling over $248,000
