If and when the LibertyLand Project gets funded, the facility will have a definate need for volunteers. I'm not talking about some 16 year old who's got 30,000 kills on Call of Duty 4, I'm talking about prior service combat arms types, retired law enforcement and lifelong firearms afficianados. People who have 20 years of experience under their belt with a wide range of weapons and shooting styles. The kind of guys you run into at every gunshop periodically, you know who I'm talking about. These guys are a goldmine of info and they don't mind sharing some of thier experiences and preferences if they take a shine to you.
What would a LibertyLand Volunteer be expected to do? Mainly, just kind of hang out at the shop, pitch in if the customer flow exceeds the paid staff's capabilities, act as range attendees if a customer wants to rent a weapon he hasn't qualified with yet and generally help promote the shooting sports and assist in growing the shops active shooter base. I don't see the volunteer group camping out for an 8 hour shift, but I do see them stopping by on thier own schedule to see what's new in the inventory. I can also see the Volunteer staff conducting scheduled training on their particular firearms related interest, like a 2 hour class on the mysteries of the Springfield 1903-A3 versus the Model 1903, techniques used to build your own concealed carry holster, the joy of reloading, etc, etc, etc.
How many Volunteers would be needed? It's hard to put a number on that, mostly it's a question of finding people who have the knowledge and an ability to share it. A rare breed. But at LibertyLand, we'll be looking for them everyday. |
