Goals and Expectations:
The
senior class advisory is designed to make the college process at
Boston Latin Academy easier and less stressful. Each week there will
be assignments and updates about the college process that will keep
you on track and help you to be successful in the application
process. In addition to earning good grades senior year, students who
are most successful in getting into college and getting a good
financial aid package are the students who are organized and on top
of the process. We hope to make that easier for students!
While
we hope that the advisory makes the college process easier for
students, it is an expectation that all students fully participate.
As a result, students must “pass” the advisory to take part in
the graduation ceremony. Passing will be easy if you meet the
following expectations:
Attend
all classes
Apply
to college
Apply
for financial aid
Apply
for scholarships
Take
the SATs or ACTs
Visit
colleges
Meet
with ACCESS
Check
your email
Utilize
Naviance (connection.naviance.com/bla)
Show
up to class on time. Advisory is the same as a class. Attendance is
mandatory
Complete
the assigned classwork - Complete
assigned homework by the assigned deadline
All
of the assignments you receive will be work you would have had to do
for the college process anyhow. The advisory will make sure you do
not miss any deadlines or steps in the process!
Sending SAT Score Reports and College Application Fee Waivers (Note: BLA does not send SAT scores to colleges. They must be sent through College Board)
You receive four free score reports every time you register for the SAT. We highly recommend that you take advantage of these reports, as additional reports are subject to a fee. If you select to report scores from any prior SAT test sitting, they will be reported once scores from your registration are available. YOU HAVE 9 DAYS AFTER YOUR TEST TO SEND THE FOUR FREE SCORES. AFTER THAT TIME YOU LOSE THE FREE REPORTS. You can send score reports at any time from your "My SAT" account. The time frames for score delivery vary based upon each institution's method of receiving scores. Please remember that an additional week may be needed for the score recipients to process your scores once they receive them. There is a fee for sending score reports after the 9 days pass. However, if you are a fee-waiver-eligible student, you may have additional flexible score report credits. Flexible score reports for fee-waiver students If you are eligible for a fee waiver, you can send up to four additional flexible score reports at no charge as part of the SAT Fee-Waiver Service. These flexible score reports: Can be ordered at registration or at any time after you take the SAT or an SAT Subject Test. Can be used even if you previously registered for the SAT or an SAT Subject Test without using a fee waiver. Only four flexible score reports can be used during your testing lifetime, regardless of the number of times you register. Note that fee waivers do not cover rush fees for expedited score reports .
