Plum really worked my design on the runway! Dress: I really liked the greys that some designers used in their garments on the show. It may have been a result of trying to use RIT dye to achieve black! Lacking dye, I used fountain pen ink to dye my "sheet". I draped a panel of the sheet into a strapless wrap dress edged at the top with a bias band cut from the pyjama top. My original plan was for the band to be above the bust all the way around, but Tim Gunn (the one in my head!) was concerned with how boxy and shapeless the dress looked, even after I shaped the back with a box pleat. So I did my best to Make It Work with a dramatic last-minute change- the top band now wraps in a spiral to cinch the dress under the model's bust before it snaps at the model's left side. This also accentuated the asymmetric hemline I was going for. I hope the judges like it! Jacket: I thought of this first, since I wanted to showcase the shiny fabric. Man, that satin is a bitch to work with, even by hand! Each sleeve is the width of one panel of a pants leg. Styling: I will be honest with you- there is double-stick tape involved. Some to keep the outfit just so, some to keep the model standing on the runway! Sunglasses by Barbie, Shoes by me (let's pretend they came from the Piperlime accessory wall, though) So what will Nina, Michael, Heidi, and Cristina Ricci say?
