September 2008 marked the 50th Anniversary of the
founding of the Cadet Sport Parachute Club and Team. Did you realize that our
team, the Black Knights, is older than the Army team, the Golden Knights? All
of the members of the Club through the years have commented about how the
experience with the Club was the highlight of their four years at West Point. Here is an opportunity to share that spirit
across the years and an opportunity to give back to assure that cadets in the
future also have that wonderful experience. We are trying to build a good record of the Club/Team.
Would you help us? - First, go to the three or four years that you were a member of the Team/Club and see what is there. Then, expanded on what is there.
- Second, what we am looking for:
- If possible, a roster of the members during any
academic year.
- Otherwise the names of anybody who was on the
team with you and their class.
- Names of Coaches, Officers-in-Charge, Assistant
Officers-in-Charge, Parachute Riggers
- What license did you earn as a cadet?
- Did you continue to skydive after graduation?
If so, what license do you have now?
- Any other persons, beyond those mentioned above, who contributed to the club's
success. For us early guys one person who, beyond the officers, NCO's and Coaches at West Point, helped us get started was Jacques Istel.
- Significant events that happened while you were
a member; National Championship, first cadet to jump into Michie Stadium, first
cadet to jump on the plain, first two man relative team, first four man
relative team, first woman member, anyone outside the Corps, such as an
exchange student, who was a member of the team,
etc.
- The type of parachute that the team used when
you were a member. Type of reserve.
- Type of helmets used. We started off with excess
football team helmets.
- How many cadets were in the Club and on the
Team?
- What types of aircraft did the club jump from?
- Please go to the years that you were in the club/on the team and
help us complete the picture. Make sure that you go to the “Looking to the
Future” section and see how you can help.
