Requiem for the Mother of Songs

Thailand Cultural Centre Main Hall -- Ticket info TBA

Bangkok Opera Foundation, the Ministry of Culture Thailand - Department of Cultural Promotions and Opera Siam present the world premiere of Somtow Sucharitkul’s Requiem for Princess Galyani - three years in the composition.  The performers include soprano Nancy Yuen, mezzo-soprano Grace Echauri, the Siam Orpheus Choir, the Siam Sinfonietta Orchestra and the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra.

Somtow states, “It took me over three years to compose "Requiem for the Mother of Songs", a complete setting of the Latin liturgical text for seven soloists, very large chorus, two children's choruses, brass band, Thai instruments, organ and very large orchestra.  This work was created as a memorial to HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana, the "patron saint" of classical music in this country and is really a compendium of my life's work in music.”
